The Body Politic
How do we make New York City a more sex-positive place? Sex clubs are still under the draconian laws penned by the Giuliani administration. How do we “do” sex activism?
Sex 2.0 in May 2009 had a wonderful panel entitled, “Sex Work in the Time of Obama.” Audacia Ray co-presented with Stacey Swimme, and this was their presentation description:
Sex Work 2.0 in the Time of Obama
Now that the United States has a new administration, sex workers and their allies are facing different challenges. In this session we ask (and attempt to answer): what should sex worker activists and allies be working toward with the new administration, and how can the average internet sex geek help? This discussion will be a strategy discussion about the messaging we feel the Obama Administration is most receptive to, the various points of entry within the Obama Admin (such as the new White House Council on Women and Girls, etc) and most specifically, map out a viral messaging campaign proposal to bring to the community.
Audacia shares strategies for online sex-positive activism here. How can we use these and other strategies can we use to effect change here in New York City, not just for sex workers, but for the sex-positive community as a whole?

Those of us who live in the New York area may easily forget how much
repression exists in other parts of the country. Recently a Virginia man was arrested for indecent exposure in his own kitchen; it was 5 a.m., and he was making coffee, naked. A neighbor, the wife of a police officer, was apparently on his property when the incident occurred. She reported him, and he was charged. Oh my!
