Pleasure Salon was founded by Mark Michaels, Patricia Johnson and
Selina Fire.
Mark A. Michaels and Patricia Johnson are a devoted married couple and have been teaching Tantra together since 1999. Michaels and Johnson are the authors of The Essence of Tantric Sexuality (Llewellyn, 2006), which won the USA Book News National Best Books 2007 Award in Health: Sexuality. Their second book, Tantra for Erotic Empowerment: The Key to Enriching Your Sexual Life (Llewellyn 2008) won the 2008 USA Book News Award.
Selina Fire is a lifelong New Yorker, sex-positive activist, sex educator, sex writer and hedonist. Corrupted at an early age by growing up in New York and going to rock clubs, she has been a sexual adventurer ever since. She has been a columnist for Penthouse Forum, written for Britain’s Swing magazine, and regularly contributed to the Sex Ed website Carnal Nation. She is partnered, and lives in Manhattan.
Selina met Mark and Patricia through Tristan Taormino’s ground-breaking work in sex-positive community development. Inspired by the diversity of participants at her sex-positive events, Selina, Mark and Patricia worked together to create a monthly New York City gathering of sex-positive people from all walks of sexual life. Thus Pleasure Salon was born. The three co-founders continue to organize and host the event each month.
